Below are my suggestions of how to eat somewhat healthy when you go to Mexican, Italian, and Asian Cuisines! It’s really hard to order healthy when the group does not, so stay strong and stick to your goals. Here is what I choose and avoid.

Italian Restaurant

Order a salad right away so you don’t munch on that warm delicious bread and oil

Sorry but order a protein dish like Chicken Marsala or a Fish (no pasta)

If you must have pasta then order the pasts as a side and try not to eat all of it

Request that they go easy on the butter as they like to go overboard

Definitely don’t choose a dish with a cream base; olive oil or red sauce is best

I like to get double veggies with my main entre or a soup

Dishes I Like
Chicken Picatta, or Marsala
Fish

Mexican Restaurant

Again order a salad pronto to keep you from eating the basket of fresh crisp salty chips

Choose a main dish that has chicken or fish, or just veggies

If you need a tortilla choose corn but I never need tortillas

I like the fajitas and just eat the meat and veggies with avocado

I avoid anything with cheese or that is fried altogether

I love beans and usually go for black – try to avoid refried as they add lard

Dishes I Like

Chicken Tacos
Tostada (easy on the sour cream – don’t eat the shell)
Fish with a salad and soup
Fajitas – no tortillas just meat and veggies

Asian Restaurant

Request low sodium soy and/or teriyaki sauce

Avoid the fried foods; fried rice, tempura, egg rolls

Get a soup to start and avoid the crunchies

Order chicken or fish dish that isn’t coated with flour then fried or a rice noodle dish

If you like sushi and they have it get some sashi or a few rolls

Dishes I Like

Sashimi / Sushi
Miso Soup
Salad
Almond Chicken with Vegetables
Beef with broccoli (only if I haven’t had any red meat in awhile)
Shrimp Stir Fry
Spicy Green Beans
Chicken Lettuce Wraps
