People often ask me what kinds of food and snacks I feed my children since I am a big advocate for health. As a parent I know all too well how hard it can be to convince your kids to not eat junk food. There are so many luring ads, commercials, toy gimmicks associated with food it’s crazy.
Edemame (they love to pop em in their mouth)

Rolled up ham or turkey slices with cheese inside

Toasted Sprouted bread with agave nectar for some natural sweetness

Carrots sliced – they like the crunch

Hard boiled eggs with a bit of keltic sea salt

Sliced Nectarines or Apples (way better than a glass of juice)

If I give them juice I do ¾ water and ¼ of the juice (make sure you buy 100% juice, check the label)

Organic Yogurt (plain with added fresh fruit is best)

Organic Cheese slices

Frozen Fruit Juice Pops (instead of popsicles)

Let us know what your kids like to eat? We could all use some new ideas!

My boys like whole wheat pitas with hummus, sugar snap peas, juliene cut carrots, tofurkey slices, celery with almond butter, apple chips, banana chips, soy nuts, avocado on crackers, guacamole as snacks to name a few. Hummus makes a yummy dip for veggies. We are 99% vegetarian (some wild salmon maybe 1X a week), so they love just eating fruits and veggies as snacks. My little guy loves prunes! They get way more excited about food when I let them do the shopping at the produce market. I let them pick out their fruits and veg themselves and we talk about the benefits of each. Then they feel a sense of pride when I say “these are the green beans you picked out today” as we eat them. That makes it all the more yummy to them.

I add quick oatmeal (whole or ground in a coffee grinder) to mashed or pureed fruit, bananas mixed with other fruits, peaches, blueberries etc works really well. Some fruits may need to be cooked first to soften. I add enough oatmeal so that the dough holds it’s shape, and I form balls and flatten them on a parchment lined baking sheet. Then I bake them at 350 degrees for ten minutes. I put them all in a container in the freezer. They keep really well and my daughter thinks they’re cookies!
