Cardio Stair Workout

I enjoy mixing up my cardio and being able to go outside as much as possible, so I double step these stairs 2-3 times a week in-between my circuit training days.  These stairs are challenging mentally because I have to be very focused on my posture and foot placement. I try and step with my whole foot rather than use just my toes. This causes me to use the back of my legs (glutes and hamstrings) instead of primarily my shins and quads.
I would like to point out the fact that most long sets of stairs are free. I know times are tough and gyms can be expensive so it’s worth it to find a set nearby if you enjoy this type of workout.

WORKOUT
I usually do them about 12-15 times double stepping – occasionally triple stepping (I have long legs). Some friends of mine like to alternate with one single jog and then one double step.
I do a quick jog for a warm up and stretch afterwards.

As always, you are an inspiration! And I don’t use that term loosely, believe me. Thanks for another terrific post!

We are having some nice weather in Pittsburgh, so I set out to the high school to do the stadium steps…but the lights were not on and it was getting dark. I recently moved, so I am trying to find new places and this blog gave me motivation to find some steps! I did walk for 30 mins and found several sets of smaller steps (six steps) leading to the school with the parking lot well-lit…so I did a zig-zag through those! THANK YOU!
